Dr Thanthrige graduated from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2007. After a brief period of working in urban and rural hospitals in Sri Lanka he moved to New Zealand and worked for a decade in public hospitals and General Practice before attaining fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2020.
Dr Thanthrige moved to Australia permanently in 2022 and attained fellowship with Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2023. Dr Thanthrige is a General Practitioner and Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. He has further developed his training in Skin Cancer medicine by completing:
