Melanocytes are pigment-producing cells in your skin. The number of melanocytes present in our skin will determine your skin colour.
Excessive skin pigmentation is a result of abnormal production and deposition of melanin by the melanocytes. Production of melanin is dependent on UV or sun exposure, and is a natural protective mechanism of the skin.
Hyperpigmentation areas are darker than the rest of the skin. These result from excess melanin production.
Ageing, sun damage, trauma/inflammation and hormonal change can leave unwanted freckles and spots and can worsen pigmentation (darker or lighter coloured skin spots).
Laser pigment treatment may help rejuvenate your skin by safely and effectively reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation and post-trauma pigmentation such as acne scars and age spots.

Laser Pigmentation Procedure:
Step 1: Skin Consultation – We will discuss your concerns and explain the treatment process and aftercare. During the consultation your Clinician will recommend and discuss any products you may need to use prior to your procedure, to ensure your skin is well prepped to reduce risks and to ensure optimal results from your treatment.
Step 2: Skin Preparation – Your skin is thoroughly cleansed. You will experience a warming flicking sensation as the laser passes over the treatment area. Most patients experience minimal discomfort, sometimes described as if a rubber band is being lightly flicked onto the skin.
Step 3: Aftercare – After your treatment a thin layer of cooling serum, and sunscreen is applied to the skin. There will likely be some redness and mild swelling, slight darkening of pigmentation in the skin following a treatment. Mineral make up can be applied to the skin when the heat has resolved.
Detailed aftercare will be advised at the time of the consultation as it will be tailored to your skin type.
